Griet van de Velde is interested in the present and points of view as products of their time. Her personal visual interpretation allows you to transcend the moment, and renders the ordinary exceptional. She makes seemingly mundane aspects of everyday life significant, as if founding a ‘philosophy of the moment’. Her artistic approach therefore consists of re-contextualising the experience she photographs, making it metaphorically unique, going beyond its basic physical and material manifestation, to relate it to our imagination. So, it makes sense that she says, “My photos are what they are and the fewer words you use to describe them the better”. Come and see them for yourself at BOZAR.

Griet van de Velde is geïnteresseerd in het heden, in standpunten die met het moment verbonden zijn. Haar persoonlijke beeldende aanpak maakt het mogelijk om het moment te overstijgen en het gewone een uitzonderlijke dimensie toe te kennen. Het dagelijkse leven kan saai lijken, maar dankzij haar krijgt het een bijzondere betekenis, alsof ze een ‘filosofie van het nu’ heeft gecreëerd. Ze vertrekt vanuit een gebeurtenis en maakt die in figuurlijke zin uniek door verder te gaan dan enkel de simpele fysieke en materiële veruitwendiging, en die ervaring aan onze verbeelding te koppelen. Het is dan ook logisch dat ze schrijft: “Mijn foto’s zijn wat ze zijn en hoe minder woorden je vindt om ze te beschrijven, hoe beter.” Het antwoord, een reeks sprekende foto’s, vind je bij BOZAR.

Griet van de Velde s’intéresse au moment présent, à des points de vue ancrés dans le temps. Son traitement visuel personnel permet de transcender l’instant et de conférer à l’ordinaire une dimension exceptionnelle. Le quotidien qui peut sembler insipide devient signifiant grâce à elle, comme si elle fondait une « philosophie du moment ». Sa démarche artistique consiste donc à prendre prétexte de l’expérience qu’elle photographie pour la rendre métaphoriquement unique, allant au-delà de sa simple manifestation physique et matérielle pour la mettre en relation avec notre imaginaire. Aussi, est-ce assez logiquement qu’elle écrit « Mes photos sont ce qu’elles sont et moins vous trouvez de mots pour les décrire, mieux c’est ». Réponse à BOZAR. En image, évidemment.
